About Stranger Than Fiction

Previous Entry Stranger Than Fiction Oct. 11th, 2007 @ 03:51 pm Next Entry
Just finished watching the movie Stranger Than Fiction, courtesy of my shiny new DVR. I meant to go see this in the theater when it came out, but never did. It was great. I thought the casting was perfect, especially Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dustin Hoffman (Will Ferrell and Emma Thompson do not get special credit for being cast well, as they are expected to be perfect no matter what the role). Problem though is that now I didn't pay anything to watch this, other than my cable fee, and that seems wrong; no way can I buy it, because I only want to see it once - what I really need is a tip jar where I could drop a dollar to encourage more movies like this.

(I quite liked that movie, btw!)

What a great point. I often feel like that with artists I appreciate. Especially with the movie and music industry, where they often see so little of the proceeds. Even though I'm sure they're all fine without us and our tips, but still. The wanting to show appreciation is certainly there.

Yeah, the tips aren't necessarily monetary compensation - more of a show of interest in product of that kind, yeah? Some way to indicate to a studio that the show is being appreciated even if it's being seen in non-trackable ways. Or not. I would feel that I'd have, eh, put my two cents in.

Yes! that's exactly it!

I mean, small-time blogs do it (and probably do it for sustenance). But I wish the bigger guys did it too, without drawing too much ridicule.
